How Much Does Engraving Cost?

See estimated engraving price examples, learn what affects the cost, and estimate what personalization may add to your order.

Engraving Variables that Affect the Estimate

Engraving cost mainly depends on four things: the item you choose, how much personalization you add, whether you need custom artwork such as a logo, and how many pieces you order. At EngravingShop, some products add name or monogram personalization for as little as $5 to $10 above the item price. Custom logos carry a one-time $35 artwork conversion fee, and orders of 20 or more pieces may qualify for quantity pricing.

How Much Does Engraving Cost at EngravingShop?

There is no single price for engraving, because the work changes with the product and what you want engraved. Rather than quote a national average, here is what personalization actually adds on EngravingShop products. Prices below are current EngravingShop examples, not universal industry rates.

Engraving type Example current price What affects the final price
Name, initials or monogram From $5 on selected products Item and engraving area
Longer message From $10 on selected products Available space and product
Logo or custom image $35 conversion fee + engraving Artwork, quantity and engraving
20 or more pieces Quantity pricing available Item, quantity and personalization

In practice, the brushed stainless-steel tankard currently offers name and monogram engraving for an added $5 and a special-message option for $10, while the rosewood book clock currently lists its engraving at $10. Logo and custom-image jobs start with a $35 one-time conversion fee when your artwork meets our guidelines, then the engraving fee varies by quantity and the amount of engraving.

What Affects the Cost of Engraving?

If two jobs that look similar come back with different prices, it usually traces to one of the factors below.

The Item Being Engraved

The size, shape, surface and available engraving area all shape the work involved, so the same text can take more or less setup from one item to the next. The item you choose is one of the main factors that can affect the final price.

How Much Text You Want

A short name, a set of initials or a monogram usually calls for less engraving than a full inscription. Available space matters too. Every product has a practical limit on how much can be engraved while keeping the result clean and readable, so a longer message can affect both the price and what fits.

Logos and Custom Artwork

A logo or image often needs to be prepared before engraving can begin, which is why custom artwork can carry a setup fee, and more complex artwork may need additional preparation. If you have a logo, a crest or a custom graphic, the best next step is our custom engraving page.

Order Quantity

Larger orders can lower the per-piece price, because setup and production are spread across more items. That makes bulk engraving a practical fit for awards, gifts and recognition programs.

Additional Engraving Areas or Complexity

Adding more personalization, engraving in more than one area, using detailed artwork or building a more involved project all add to the work and can affect the final quote. For anything beyond standard product options, we price the specific project rather than guessing from an average.

Does the Material Affect Engraving Cost?

It can. The material, finish, shape and available surface all influence how the engraving is done, which is why a quote is tied to the actual product rather than a flat material surcharge. EngravingShop works across materials that show up throughout our catalog, including stainless steel, pewter, brass and rosewood. Rather than apply a blanket rule to a whole category, we look at the specific item, since the product and its surface tell us far more than the material name alone.

How Much Does It Cost to Engrave a Name or Initials?

It depends on the product. Some EngravingShop items offer name or monogram personalization starting at an additional $5, while other products use different engraving prices based on the item and the engraving area. Browse personalized gifts to see name and initial pricing shown right on each product page.

How Much Does a Longer Engraved Message Cost?

A longer message can cost more than a name or monogram, depending on the product and how much engraving room it has. On the stainless-steel tankard, the special-message option is currently an additional $10. Length limits exist for a practical reason. The engraving needs to stay readable and fit the available area, so each product page shows what its personalization option allows.

How Much Does Logo Engraving Cost?

Logo engraving has two parts. First, a $35 one-time conversion fee to prepare your artwork when it meets our guidelines, with more complex artwork sometimes needing extra preparation. Second, an engraving fee that depends on the quantity you order and how much engraving each piece requires. For the cleanest result, EngravingShop currently recommends high-quality black-and-white line art and accepts formats including BMP, PNG, JPG and EPS. The most reliable way to price a logo job is to send your artwork and quantity so we can quote it directly.

Does Engraving Cost Less When You Order in Bulk?

It can. EngravingShop currently offers quantity pricing on eligible orders of 20 or more pieces. Businesses can keep the same award or product and change the names, dates, achievements or other details from piece to piece when the product and layout allow, which makes bulk engraving a practical fit for employee recognition, events and gifting programs. See our employee recognition awards for orders at this scale.

Is Engraving Included in the Product Price?

It varies by product. Many EngravingShop items show a base item price and list personalization as an added option, so you can see the engraving cost before checkout. The stainless-steel tankard, for instance, currently lists a $48.95 base price with engraving added as a separate $5 or $10 option. The clearest approach is to review the personalization options on each product page, where the exact engraving cost is shown alongside the item.

How to Get an Exact Engraving Price

To get an exact price quickly, it helps to know a few things before you reach out:

  • Which product you want engraved
  • The text you want engraved
  • Whether you need a name, monogram, message or logo
  • The quantity
  • Your artwork, if you have a logo or custom image
  • Any event or delivery date that matters

For products with standard engraving options, you can usually see the personalization price directly on the product page. For custom logos, images or larger projects, request a quote and we will price the specific job.

From Our In-House Engraver

“What usually changes the price is the setup. A short name on a simple surface is quick, but a detailed logo or a message that has to fit a tight area takes more preparation, and that is what you see in the quote.”

Engraving Cost FAQs

How much does engraving usually cost?

Does the engraving material affect the cost?

The item, surface and material can all influence the work required. Rather than rely on a universal material surcharge, check the specific product or request a quote for an accurate price.

Can I see the engraving cost before ordering?

For standard personalization, the product page shows the available engraving options and their cost. Custom artwork and larger projects may need a quote.
